See our EYFS Long Term Plans below to find out what we are learning across the curriculum.

English

We are following Twinkl Phonics to learn our sounds and develop a range of reading and writing skills. For more information and resources about Phonics please see the Phonics section on our website.

Children will begin bringing home a Tricky Word pencil case. When new Tricky Words are learnt in class, we will send them home in the pencil case for them to practise. They will also bring home a mini-book that includes all the sounds they have learnt in a week. They can keep the mini-book at home. They can also access 'Twinkl Phonics for Web' games at home. Please come and ask if your child has lost their login details.

The children will also bring home a reading book once they have learnt the first 12 sounds. We use the Rhino Reader and Oxford Reading Tree reading schemes. Both schemes have been aligned so the book your child brings home is at the correct level for their Phonic ability. Books will be changed three times a week. We encourage you to look at the book at home and write in your child's reading record. We recommend reading the book several times to allow the children to gain fluency and to allow for comprehension discussions, such as what happens next? Why do you think they did that? etc.

In English during the Autumn Term we will be thinking about letter sounds, letter formation and pencil control, sounding and blending words to read and spell using the sounds we learn in phonics, at each child's individual level. We will be writing at each child’s individual level during ‘OWL Time’ (Own Learning Time) and adult led activities. They will write lists and labels, make books, take notes for phone calls and so much more. We will look at many different texts linked to our topic including The Family Book, The Colour Monster, Super Duper You, Owl Babies, The Very Helpful Hedgehog and the Jolly Postman. We will talk ab

out how we hold a book and different parts of a book, about text having meaning. We will look at fiction and non-fiction books and the differences.

 *Matching, sorting and comparing

*Measure and patterns

*Numbers 1,2,3,4 and 5
